Researcher, writer, strategic planner, committee leader, chair of the board, advocate, and more. Marg Fallis has played all of these roles within the Community Laundry Co-op since its inception 10 years ago.
At the 2010 Annual General Meeting in May, Fallis was presented with the Sharon Moon Award for her tireless efforts. As a founder and member of the board of directors, she was described by a fellow board member as a “person who cares for others and believes in justice for all people.”
Every year at the Annual General Meeting, a few members are invited to speak about how they became involved with the Community Laundry Co-op, and what it has meant to them. These stories are always moving and inspirational. Nasima Haque’s story – which she shared with the group at this year’s meeting – was no exception.
Haque came to Canada from Bangladesh. Nearly a year ago, she was in search of a part-time job in a non-stressful environment. She found what she was looking for through the Causeway Work Centre (a local community economic development organization that provides employment, educational programs and other supports). Causeway found her work with the Laundry Co-op, and Haque was pleased with the match.
May 19, 2010 marked yet another successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the Community Laundry Co-op.
Chair Karen Fee welcomed participants who came to the event at Heartwood House to learn about the ways in which the Co-op has progressed over the past year, hear members share their stories, and more.
You are invited to join us for awards, refreshments, and exciting new developments within the Co-op at our upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The AGM will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Heartwood House (153 Chapel St., Ottawa) at 5:30 pm.

Somerset West Community Health Centre is a non-profit, community-governed organization that provides primary health care, health promotion and community development services, using interdisciplinary teams of health providers.

Heartwood House collects donations of computer equipment from the community, and RD Long compensates Heartwood for their efforts. Items are inspected for usability, returned to service whenever possible or recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.
